Dolphins Re-Sign Josh Freeman

Jul 28, 2015 10:41 AM

The Miami Dolphins have re-signed Josh Freeman just four days after cutting him.

It's unclear at this time why Miami cut Freeman last week only to re-sign him one day before players report for training camp.

Freeman will enter camp as the third string quarterback behind Ryan Tannehill and Matt Moore.

Freeman is a long shot to make the Dolphins' final 53-man roster.

Jonathan Martin Retires At Age Of 25

Jul 27, 2015 3:06 PM

Jonathan Martin will retire from the NFL as he deals with a back injury that would have forced him out of the 2015 season.

Martin was a second round pick out of Stanford in 2012.

Martin spent two seasons with the Miami Dolphins and was the victim of a bullying scandal.

The San Francisco 49ers signed Martin for the 2014 season. The Carolina Panthers had claimed Martin and he was going to be in their training camp.

Colts Release Gosder Cherilus

Jul 26, 2015 5:58 PM

The Indianapolis Colts have released Gosder Cherilus, who was their starting right tackle.

He was one of the main free-agent acquisitions by the Colts in 2013, when Cherilus signed a five-year, $34 million contract.

Cherilus battled knee, shoulder and groin problems last season before eventually being placed on injured reserve prior to the playoffs.

The 31-year-old Cherilus had offseason knee surgery, which kept him from taking part in organized team activities, including a mandatory three-day minicamp in June.

Indianapolis tried to restructure Cherilus' contract before cutting him, according to an NFL source. Cherilus' agent Greg Diulus also acknowledged contract negotiations when discussing his client's release.

Ray Rice Hoping To Resume NFL Career

Jul 26, 2015 9:21 PM

Ray Rice has been initiating contact with NFL teams in an attempt to have him join a team for training camp.

Rice has been working out daily in hopes of receiving a second chance.

One source said Rice is not motivated by money because he made $25 million in his final 18 months with the Ravens. Rice would like the opportunity to meet with an NFL owner or coach to make a case for a chance to compete for a roster spot.

Rice has not played since he was released by the Ravens after video emerged of him punching his then-fiancée Janay Palmer, who is now his wife.

One team seriously considered an offer to Rice, but team ownership became uncomfortable late in the process because of concerns about public reaction to signing him given the taped incident.

According to NFL general managers and personnel directors, Rice is seen as declining player at a young man's position.

Jul 21, 2015 7:52 PM

The Tennessee Titans and Marcus Mariota have finally agreed upon terms of his rookie contract.

Mariota was the final remaining unsigned first round pick. The Titans picked Mariota second overall out of Oregon.

“We are glad to have the deal with Marcus done, and I’d like to thank both Marcus and his representatives for their diligence in working with us to finalize this contract,” said Titans Executive Vice President and General Manager Ruston Webster. “We were confident that Marcus would be under contract before training camp, and we look forward to him starting his career on time with his teammates when we open camp next week. This is an exciting time for the Tennessee Titans organization, and we look forward to a bright future.”

According to Mike Florio, Mariota and the Titans agreed to partial offsets to get a deal done.
